Dear Governor Lamont,

The expansion of Tweed New Haven Airport is within reach, and Connecticut cannot afford to let this opportunity slip away.

The moment to act is now. Southern Connecticut remains significantly underserved when it comes to convenient commercial air service, forcing residents and businesses to rely on airports in neighboring states for many travel needs. At the same time, the airport’s current facilities are inadequate and not sustainable as a long-term solution for the level of passenger demand the region is already experiencing. If Connecticut is going to seize this opportunity to modernize this critical gateway and close this service gap, we must act with urgency.

With your leadership, Connecticut can secure a generational infrastructure and economic development victory that will strengthen our transportation network and unlock major economic opportunities for the region and the entire state. We’ve already seen the increase in travel to leisure destinations, but this expansion can also pave the way for more commercial travel, providing immeasurable benefits for both small and large businesses across the region. Beyond that, it will encourage further economic growth and attract new companies and startups to the region and across our state.

After years of planning, approvals, and investment, this project is poised to bring hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment and federal funding to our state — far exceeding the limited support required from Connecticut. However, we must act now while private capital and federal grant funds are available, or this opportunity could disappear if action is not taken before the end of the legislative session. It represents a powerful example of how modern infrastructure and public-private partnership can drive economic growth.

Governor, we urge you to help bring this effort across the finish line and ensure Connecticut does not miss this historic opportunity. Let us finish what you have helped champion since this project was announced.
